About Us
OUR STORY
Ballet Folklórico Quetzalli–AZ began as a single recreational dance class led by
Vanessa Ramirez and has grown, over eighteen years, into one of the few folklórico
companies based in Arizona’s East Valley. What started as a way to share Mexican
folk dance with a handful of students is now a multigenerational company teaching
dancers ages 5 through adult, and a company ensemble that has represented Arizona
on stages across the country and abroad.
MISSION
To preserve and share the culture, music, and dance traditions of Mexico, teaching technique and artistry while building a community rooted in family, culture, and legacy.
WHAT MAKES BFQ AZ DIFFERENT
- A true multigenerational program, with classes built for creative aging alongside youth and family classes
- A company built with intention to be a welcoming space for the region's BIPOC community and beyond
- One of very few East Valley organizations dedicated specifically to Mexican folklórico
- An active performance record, from community festivals to international stages
LEADERSHIP
Vanessa Ramirez, Founder & Executive Director
Vanessa founded BFQ AZ as a single class and has led it for eighteen years, teaching
folklórico technique and choreography while building the organization’s performance,
education, and community programs. Her cultural leadership work extends beyond
the studio, including her role with C.A.L.L.E. de Arizona, a nonprofit supporting Latino
arts, education, and scholarship in the Valley.
